On June 23 in Brussels, within the framework of the launch of the “Connectivity Agenda Platform,” Vahan Kostanyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, held meetings with representatives of the European Commission. The parties discussed the deepening of Armenia–EU cooperation, the development of joint initiatives in the field of transport connectivity, and issues concerning Armenian air carriers.
Particular attention was paid to the process of removing Armenian airlines from the EU’s aviation safety blacklist. During talks with Maja Bakran, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, the parties also discussed the agreements reached at the Armenia–EU summit on May 5 in Yerevan and the progress of their implementation.
The parties emphasized the importance of fulfilling the transport component of the “Connectivity Partnership” document, as well as the need to develop sustainable infrastructure and projects of mutual interest. A meeting with Simon Mordue addressed the expansion of export opportunities for Armenian products under current restrictions, as well as the significance of EU budget support for the Armenian government.
The European Union will provide Armenia with €50 million in emergency assistance. As European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated, her phone conversation with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan covered the restrictions imposed by Russia. In particular, following the ban on imports of Armenian flowers, a new export route was established: the first shipment of 10,000 flowers arrived in Latvia on June 5, with further deliveries expected.
