Armenia will have to reconsider its foreign policy and negotiate with Russia — Arman Boshyan

Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Arman Boshyan commented on the reports about the shutdown of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
“US foreign policy is changing. The dramatic change in US foreign and domestic policy that we are witnessing today is due to a split in the elites. The root cause of the problem is that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the US greatly increased its control over other countries with its various foreign policy tools. This control was expressed as humanitarian control, although in fact it has only a secondary relation to humanitarian issues, if any at all.
USAID and similar funds were used to support US foreign influence and to support loyal regimes around the world. This concerned political regimes and the creation of agents of influence and simply recruiting agents. After all, this agency cooperated with the CIA, if it was not subordinate to the CIA at all. But the result is that they were very quickly changing undesirable regimes and candidates around the world. What does an undesirable candidate mean? It is a candidate who does not correspond to the US foreign policy agenda,” Boshyan said.
According to the political scientist, the US’s external influence does not appeal to all the countries.
“The US, despite all its failures in foreign policy that have occurred in the past decades, from Iraq to Afghanistan, remains a leading technological power. It must be understood that modern technologies are centered in the US. And it risks losing all of this because the US’s external influence does not appeal to all the countries. Their LGBT agenda and that kind of schizophrenia that they imposed on all countries came from the fact that the real rulers there were demented people. That is, the system began to rot.
Then a split arose in the elites, represented in particular by Trump, Elon Musk, and other technology leaders. The US believes that it has enough resources, including natural ones, to develop itself while continuing to have global influence through technology because the 21st century is the century of technology,” Boshyan noted.
According to the expert, Armenia will remain in Russia’s zone of influence because the US is ending its aggressive foreign policy.
“Not only will the USAID program be closed, but also other grant programs that concerned the financing of a number of scientific projects. We must not forget that all this contributed to the brain drain from Armenia. Therefore, at some point, Armenia may feel direct financial damage, if you can call it that, but in the long term, we will see a recovery of Armenia’s energy projects.
Armenia will have to reconsider its foreign policy and negotiate with Russia, especially in the energy sector. Because no one can offer us any alternative. Armenia will have to reconsider its foreign policy if, of course, our government is at least somewhat interested in the country’s survival. The US will weaken its influence in Armenia. They will not stop influencing Armenia’s policy, but this influence will be changed, and this is directly related to the agreements that will be reached between Russia and the US regarding the division of zones of influence in Europe, in post-Soviet countries, as well as around the agreement with China.
I dare to assume that Armenia will remain in Russia’s zone of influence because the US is ending its aggressive foreign policy. Armenia will find itself, in fact, alone with reality. We have quarreled with all our allies, especially relations with Russia have been very badly damaged, and in order to survive, we will have to negotiate with Russia again. The US will not control Armenia as before. Why? Because it is going to maintain indirect influence in the world,” Boshyan concluded.
