“If Yerevan, especially at a high level, participates in the COP29 in Baku, this will mean that Armenia is officially participating in Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy,” Sarineh Abrahamian, the PR and Communication Officer of the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD), told Alpha News.

Baku is once again talking about Armenia’s participation in the COP29 conference, which will be held in November. Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, Chief Executive Officer of COP29, Elnur Soltanov, said that they expect Armenia to also participate. Earlier, an official invitation was sent to the Armenian Foreign Ministry. Pashinyan’s government has not yet responded to the invitation, but it is not completely excluded that the invitation will be accepted.

When asked what this will mean and what consequences it will have for Armenian interests, Sarineh Abrahamian emphasized that Armenia’s participation will confirm Azerbaijan’s policy.

“With its participation, Armenia will confirm Azerbaijan’s policy and claims that Azerbaijan is interested in concluding peace, and the problem is the Armenian side, which has territorial claims. Participation in this event at the level of the Foreign Minister of Armenia or in another format is extremely dangerous,” Sarineh Abrahamian said.

On August 23, the European Union called on the Azerbaijani authorities to sign a peace treaty with Armenia before the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku in November. Why is the EU in such a hurry? Does the EU believe that a peace treaty with Baku’s demands and conditions will be in Armenia’s interests? And, finally, the EU is now positioning itself as a partner and ally of Armenia; does this partnership have its own boundaries? Answering questions, Sarineh Abrahamian noted that the EU-Armenia relations are determined by the conflict between Russia and the European Union.

“The EU is convinced that no matter what the price, Armenia must agree to sign this peace treaty, even with major concessions on its part. As for the boundaries of the EU-Armenia relations, it is obvious that they are determined by the conflict between Russia and the European Union. It should be clear to all of us that the relations of the European Union with Armenia pursue only Brussels’ own interests,” Abrahamian emphasized.

The ARF-D in Lebanon sent a letter to 44 foreign ambassadors, noting that the COP29 will be held in a country that perpetrated ethnic cleansing in Artsakh, continues to hold Armenian hostages and prisoners of war in its prisons, and is experiencing an environmental disaster. In a response letter, the Canadian Ambassador to Lebanon said that Armenia gave its consent to hold the COP29 in Baku. When asked whether the Lebanese Diaspora shares Pashinyan’s consent, Sarineh Abrahamian said that as long as his destructive policy continues, various Diaspora structures, be it in Lebanon, the United States, or Belgium, will raise Armenian issues.

The factions of the National Assembly of Artsakh also issued a statement noting that invitations to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference have been sent to leaders of various countries, official delegations, officials of international organizations and numerous journalists. It is obvious that Baku will use this conference to mislead the world community and distract public attention from the crimes that are the very essence of this country.

When asked if the international community pays attention to the statements of the Artsakh parliament and if there are individuals and circles in Europe for whom the Artsakh issue is not closed, Sarineh Abrahamian replied:

“The Armenian National Committees have repeatedly invited various European MPs and politicians to the Republic of Artsakh for fact-finding, where they also met and communicated with the MPs of the National Assembly of Artsakh. They are now monitoring the announcements. We must do everything possible to ensure that all these statements are heard, because they also express the political will of the Armenians of Artsakh. Some parliamentarians and individuals believe that the Artsakh issue is not yet closed. Many political figures and circles also understand how important it is to protect the rights of the Armenians of Artsakh, as well as their right to return. Only in this way will it be possible to achieve real and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
