I have warned that by destroying relations with Russia and weakening our positions in Moscow, we are pushing Moscow towards Turkey and Azerbaijan, Professor at Stanford University Arthur Khachikian told Alpha News.

“Four years ago, a war began that changed the lives of all of us. It has not ended yet. If we were a normal republic and a real state, people would take responsibility for what they have done. I do not remember a single case in history, not a single example, when a group of people came to power, failed diplomacy, lost the war, lost part of the homeland, saying that it was not their business, and the return of the people to their homes is not in their interests. This cannot be explained in any way.

This tragedy was the result of people coming to power who are either extremely insane or incapable of governing a state, do not know diplomacy, or who deliberately made serious diplomatic mistakes. I personally warned that by destroying relations with Russia and weakening our positions, we are pushing Moscow towards Turkey and Azerbaijan and creating an opportunity for them to attack. Unfortunately, no one listened,” the political scientist said.

Khachikian noted that many years ago he warned that Azerbaijan was arming itself and that there would soon be a war.

“Even after the four-day war in 2016, I wrote that it was just an experiment, reconnaissance. Azerbaijan will find our weak points and will begin to introduce new technological weapons, use drones and other technologies and will win. Of course, no one paid attention to my warnings.
If we were citizens of a normal state, we would ask who failed our diplomacy, the entire negotiation process, who lied to our people, promising that they would discuss the solution of the Karabakh issue with all citizens,” Arthur Khachikian said.

“Who did not stop and failed the war, who gave his word that we would return to Hadrut and take back Shushi, and most importantly, who went to Prague and signed the document that surrendered Artsakh? Russia, in fact, was forced to retreat, firstly, because it has its own interests, and, secondly, we ourselves admitted that there are no more disputes around Artsakh and Russia has nothing to do there anymore. Who is now attending shameful meetings with the man who said that he took Artsakh? Pashinyan went and sat on Erdogan’s lap in New York. No society would tolerate such a thing,” the political scientist stated with regret.

According to Arthur Khachikian, Baku speaks to us in the language of force because it sees that we do not have a real government.

“Azerbaijan sees very well that we do not have a real government. They are insane people who graduated from school and immediately became ministers, we all know who they are. Azerbaijan is constantly arming itself, concluding international agreements with European countries and speaking to us in the language of force. And why should it concede anything or negotiate with us? It will get everything by force, and now the most important issue is the Syunik corridor, where our position is cracking again.

We are eyewitnesses to a 6-year catastrophic policy that we tolerate and watch as the head of our state bows, humiliates himself and begs for peace, and he is once again told that they have a long list of concessions that Armenia must make,” Arthur Khachikian said.

The political scientist called for sobriety, noting that Turkey does not want peace if it continues to voice threats.

“If I were in the place of the leaders of Turkey or Azerbaijan, I would continue to talk to Armenia from a position of force and would get everything. If Turkey really wanted peace, perhaps it would not expel the Artsakh people from Artsakh, but would provide them with some guarantees.

But we see how Turkey and Azerbaijan continue to strangle Armenia from both sides. If their goal was peace, they would not have attacked us, displaced the Armenians from Artsakh, and demanded a corridor,” Arthur Khachikian concluded.
