Speaking with Alpha News, Director of Russia’s Center for the Study of the Middle East and Central Asia, Semyon Bagdasarov, commented on Armenian-Russian relations in recent years, noting that the Armenian Prime Minister purposefully destroyed all contacts.

“Russia realizes that a lot depends on the situation in Armenia regarding Russia’s own security, in the South Caucasus as a whole, and on Russia’s southern borders. I can cite a lot of factors showing that policy in the South Caucasus needs to be changed. I always ask the question, Why is the largest embassy in the world, where 2,500 staff work, located in Yerevan? This is almost five times more than the entire staff of the US Embassy in Moscow and 60–70 times more than that of the embassy in Georgia. Why is such a huge US embassy not located in Baku, Tbilisi, or somewhere else…

I have written a lot about how important Russia’s presence in Armenia is, not only for the Armenian people but also for Russia’s national security. So, I believe that if the government changes, the situation will change. Pashinyan did a lot to destroy Armenian-Russian relations. It was his initial plan to destroy everything.

I have read the main excerpts from his book. So you read and understand who you are dealing with—anti-Russian elements, with a strong orientation towards two countries, Turkey and the USA. Having come to power, he began pointedly and purposefully, sometimes completely foolishly and unreasonably, to do everything to ruin relations with Russia. However, he doesn’t do this himself; he was once picked up by the relevant Turkish-British and American structures. They picked him up, bribed him, and worked on his mind with such hatred for the Armenian people.

I also read his article, where he is ashamed of everything Armenian, the entire Armenian history, even Tigran the Great, the greatest leader in the entire history of the Armenian people, when Armenia had a territory of over a million square kilometers. That’s why Pashinyan immediately began to spoil relations with Russia, and recently, especially after meeting with Moore, he began to take giant steps towards the destruction of Armenia,” Bagdasarov noted.
