The Center of Oriental Literature of the Russian State Library hosted a concert of the Armenian musical folk project JAN-e-JAN on November 17, 2023.

JAN-e-JAN is the project of guitarist and composer Karen Arutyunyan. Its music combines rhythms from Armenia, Georgia, Greece, and even East Africa with elements of progressive rock and trip-hop.

At the Center of Oriental Literature, JAN-e-JAN musicians performed arrangements of folk songs and their own musical pieces in Armenian.

Karen Arutyunyan lived and worked in Hungary from 2009 to 2020. In 2015, he recorded the album Alomban ebren with the Hungarian band Meszecsinka, which was awarded the prestigious Fonogram Music Awards for the best Hungarian folk/ethno album of the year.

The vocalist of the project is Nelly Mardoyan. She worked for 15 years in the Bolshoi Theater Choir in Moscow. She sings both opera and jazz pop.
