In the second half of the 19th century, the events that took place in the Russian Empire were of fateful significance not only for that time but also for the following decades.
Serfdom was abolished in Russia, but anti-government sentiments were running high in society, which also led to a series of terrorist attacks.
The target of terrorism was also the Russian emperor, who, in the end, had to become its victim. At that time, the artistic outcome of such events was foreseen by the great Fyodor Dostoevsky, who in his novel “Demons”—which is considered a harbinger novel—predicted revolutions, the collapse of the Russian Empire and the triumph of terror.
But in the same period, in political and, possibly, strategic terms, all this was foreseen by another person, the Armenian general Loris-Melikov.
In the new season of Alpha News, Professor Ruben Melkonyan reveals the image of the military and political figure Mikhail Loris-Melikov and the lessons of his period in the series 7 Portraits from the History of the Armenian People.
